Doctoral Researcher (part time 29,87 h / 75%) at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology (Research Project / Project Management Dr. Michaela Haug) from 01.10.2019

The DFG-funded project „A Future Without Forest? Future-Making, Environmental Change and Socio-economic  Transformations in East Kalimantan, Indonesia“ is linked to the CRC „Future Rural Africa“ which unites interdisciplinary future research at the Universities of Cologne and Bonn. It offers a highly dynamic and producitive working environment.


  • Conception and implementation of an ethnographic field research (approx. 12 months) on the production, articulation and negotiation of different images of the future in a rural community in East Kalimantan, Indonesia
  • Textualisation and publication of research results; preparation of a Dissertation
  • Participation in and active contribution to workshops, panels and other project related activities


  • You have a completed Masters degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology or a related discipline
  • You are familiar with Indonesia and the Indonesian language (Bahasa Indonesia) and are willing to learn the Dayak language spoken in your fieldsite
  • You have experience in empirical social research, preferably with ethnographic methods
  • You are interested, and preferably have some experience, in team work

The position is available from 01.10.2019 on a parttime basis (75%). It is limited to three years. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on  remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
