Karim Zafer, M.A.

Short Biography

Karim Zafer is a PhD candidate in the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Cologne. He completed the interdisciplinary master's degree "Culture and Environment in Africa" in 2016 at the University of Cologne. He wrote his master thesis on "Perceptions of Sexual Harassment and the Islamic religious discourses in Cairo".

His current research, supervised by Prof. Michaela Pelican, focuses on Arab and Muslim unaccompanied minor and youth refugees in Germany. The research seeks to explore how unaccompanied minor and youth refugees are making a 'parallel family' during their new life in Germany as a replacement for their 'natal family' left behind.
